CWTP Post Graduation Update

Workforce Graduation

As the year comes to a close, so does the first graduating class of the Culinary Workforce Training Program. After receiving their chef coats, knife rolls and tools – Teeka, Dari and Jean are ready to hit the ground running in the culinary world.

Teeka

When Teeka joined the program, she wasn’t sure what direction she wanted her culinary career to go. While her classmates were focusing on food trucks, she decided to focus on starting a catering company.  Teeka interned at Benson’s 1912. There she continued to hone her skills and earned a permanent position as a line cook. Her experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment will support her as she begins to plan for her own catering business.

Dari

In addition to helping prepare food for sale at No More Empty Cups, Dari has had several opportunities to assist in catering with other NMEP food entrepreneurs. She works weekly assisting MJERHelp in prepping for events and recently filled a 5,000 cookie order for a local client. Dari created a portion of the cookies and used it as a platform to launch her business, Butter’s Sweet Treats. She is currently working on her business plan and getting started in the Shared-Use Kitchen at the Food Hub.

Jean

Jean entered the program with a big food dream of owning a food bus. It would go on tour to feed the masses attending outdoor concerts and events. Participating in the CWTP opened her eyes to the benefits of using fresh, seasonal, local foods which she hopes to incorporate into her business. After interning at Benson’s 1912, she continues to explore her career options until she finds the perfect fit!
