Fire in Florence: Everyone is OK

Still legible after Mouth of the South fire in Florence

Our neighbor in Florence, Mouth of the South: Southern Grub experienced a devastating fire. No one was injured. There is a lot of building damage. We are joining others to make sure that the staff and owners know that they are appreciated and cared for in our community. Thank you to all who reached out with phone calls, text and social media messages and those who stopped by to make sure we were OK. Thank you to everyone who helped out in any way, including our neighbor who provided a warm spot to respond to calls and a good cup of coffee.

With 100 plus year old cinder block for an exterior and firewalls plus the extraordinary work by our Omaha firefighters, the food hub in Florence has experienced minimal damage. The building has some soot and smoke damage but that seems to be resolved with professional cleaning. Thanks to our agent Grant Mussman at State Farm, the claims process has gone smoothly. Our service providers from State Farm to Norm’s Door Service to ServPro, Installations Made Easy, LLC and Cox Communications have been top-notch, timely and really good at what they do.

Kitchen cleaning underway after fire

Our new tenant, MJER Help, a wife and husband Chef team, rocked it out this week with a multi-day local, organic and healthy food catering event. Michelle and her team pulled off a last minute backup food service plan when the health inspector arrived and shared that the already prepped lunch could not be served. After lunch service, they strategized and cleaned the kitchen to follow-through on their commitment to serve customers. High fives to MCC Institute for the Culinary Arts who made extraordinary accommodations quickly to support this young chef!

Thank you again to each and every one who offered help and well wishes to all of us in Florence. We do this for community and are honored that you are on this journey with us.
